Night security guard Lee Teadora is not having a good couple of months. Her parents have passed away and when she goes to visit her father's grave she is attacked by what appears to be vampires. She is saved by an unknown protector but still is spooked. Add that to the fact that she has a sun allergy and she is now starting to feel like a bit of a freak. That is, until she meets the even freakier Dr. Regens, who she can't seem to stop thinking about.But while she can't stop thinking about Dr. Regens, there also seems to be too many things outside of the ordinary happening to her. Will she let her heart rule her attraction to Dr. Regens? Or will she let some other nameless, shadowy figure that has shown up in her life dictate her reactions?
Dead or a Lie was an interesting look at another potential vampire subculture. In this one the main character is unaware just how intricately she fits into this unknown lifestyle, or what her place in the race is. Overall, it was a well thought out plot line, with twists and turns and a number of interesting characters. But, I personally felt something was missing it might have been the way the story was told. The characters were spunky (well Lee is) but for me the story didn't really flow as well as many. There was just something I can't put my finger on but overall I still enjoyed the story. I think it might be that this is an early offering for Jason A. Barret and future works will flow easier. That being said, I still enjoyed the storyline and characters in Dead or a Lie and think you will also.
