Anonymous. That was Jennifer’s life. But when she survived a domestic terrorist attack and her last-minute escape became the iconic image of the event, that life was over. Wanting only to disappear and become just another face in the crowd, she cashed in on her unwanted fame and moved to a small town, hidden away and safe.

Retired. That was Sean’s life. A former covert operative – the kind the government denies exists – he’d been pushed unwillingly into a life of suburban peace and quiet. But his retirement ended when he saw Jennifer’s rescue; from then on he only wanted to find those responsible for the attack, even if it meant turning rogue.

What Jennifer and Sean will both find is that nothing goes to plan, and their paths will cross in a way neither could have foreseen.

I thought the book was very mediocre. I was outraged when the book ended before climax of the plot occurred in a blatant attempt to force me to buy the next book if I really, really wanted to know what happened.

Ashes Ashes #1 edition by Kelly Cozy Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I did like the main character, Jennifer and felt that her character development was well written. However, I found that I liked the "bad guy" more than I did the black ops operative, Sean Kincaid, who was trying to find out who was behind the terrorist act in order to get justice for Jen. The ending was a disappointment and found myself saying "that's the end?"
I was surprised by the reviews for this book, no one mentioned the abrupt ending, or should I saw non-ending.

Even though I considered this book on the level of the numerous pulp fiction private investigator books you find at the airport to help you while you wait for your flight to board, I was especially upset when the ending was not really an ending...which made the forced struggle to trudge through the book a total waste of time. Was like a used book I once read a long time ago in which someone had torn the last page from the book.

I was assume it was so you would rush right out and buy the part II book. I don't think so, I couldn't care less.
Plausibility aside, this story isn't bad, and the characters likewise, but do NOT read this book unless you are a fan of bait-and-switch. After investing hours on this read, I found myself on the last page. There, following many trials and tribulations for all, the villain is being subjected by our heroine to a version of Russian roulette, with the gun at his head and half the chambers empty, She spins the cylinder, pulls the trigger and... "The story continues in [the author's next book] ." I kid you not! Can you say total rip-off? I'm so angry I will never read another word by Kelly Cozy. [I would have advised a spoiler alert, but since there is nothing to spoil... .]
You read the whole book, looking for a closure of the story and then find the book to be continued in another book. Cheap way to sell books. Entertaining story until the scam appears. I will remember this authors name and never buy another book of hers, nor recommend her to anyone!
It is a long book; not terrible and not the best. The worst part is that there's no ending. To find out what happens, you have to buy and read another book. That's unconscionable to me.
This would have been a great story if it had ended, Not a great fan of a book getting interesting, then stopping and you have to buy next volume to get the ending. A true disappointment .
This story began exciting and interesting, then about halfway through it morphed into Jennifer's everyday life in her new town. The black ops agent was thrown in from time to time, but not often enough for me to consider this a mystery or thriller. Both characters spent too much time speculating on their lives and motives. Not sure I like the ending, although it really didn't end.
I thought the book was very mediocre. I was outraged when the book ended before climax of the plot occurred in a blatant attempt to force me to buy the next book if I really, really wanted to know what happened.
